Barbers see it first
A barber sees the same kid every few weeks for years. That chair is one of the few places a teenager talks honestly — no desk, no clipboard, no lecture. Barbers Against Drugs exists because that conversation, at the right moment, changes outcomes.
What we do
We train barbers in Toms River and across New Jersey to recognize the early warning signs of drug use in the young people in their chairs, and to respond with the right words and the right referral — never judgment.
- Spot the signs. Practical, barber-specific training on the behavioral and physical changes that show up early.
- Start the conversation. Scripts and language that open a door instead of closing it.
- Make the handoff. Local counseling, treatment, and family resources a barber can point to on the spot.
How the merch funds it
Every hoodie, tee, cap, and bag sold puts that training in more shops. When you wear it, you are also telling every kid who reads it that this shop is a place where someone is paying attention.
